Professor Dr. David Carmichael

Biography

David Carmichael is Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNSW. He has served as the Head of the Department of Engineering Construction and Management and is part of the Construction Innovation and Research Initiative (CIRI). His professional contributions include being a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. Professor Carmichael has authored and edited twenty-three books and over one hundred papers, particularly in the fields of structural and construction engineering as well as project management. His consultancy work encompasses structural design, project programming, contract administration, and safety-related matters. He is recognized internationally for his work on project risk management and has published seminal texts on various aspects of engineering management and problem-solving. He is known for challenging students to apply their learning critically and to innovate in their thinking about industry practices.
