Biography

David M. Center, MD is currently serving as the Associate Provost for Translational Research at Boston University Medical Campus. He is the Director of the Clinical Translational Research Institute, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). His leadership focuses on advancing translational research and enhancing team science, employing innovative approaches for drug and device discovery, and improving traditional research methodologies. He holds the position of Section Chief in Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine at the Boston Medical Center. Over his career, Dr. Center has dedicated over 20 years as the Principal Investigator of the NHLBI-sponsored Pulmonary Training Grant (T32) and has been instrumental in developing connections to facilitate clinical trials and translational studies. His research interest primarily lies in the study of Interleukin-16 and its regulatory functions regarding T cell tolerance and recruitment in the context of allergic responses. Center’s lab investigates the functional properties of Pro-IL-16 and its role in T cell malignancies, utilizing cutting-edge animal models to elucidate the mechanisms at play. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Edward Livingston Trudeau Medal from the American Thoracic Society and the Chadwick Medal from the Massachusetts Thoracic Society. An alumnus of Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Center continues to contribute significantly to the field of pulmonary medicine and education at Boston University.
