Professor Dr. David Chitayat

Biography

David Chitayat is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto and a staff member in the Clinical Metabolic Genetics Division at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is the Medical Director of the MSc Program in Genetic Counseling and heads the Prenatal Diagnosis Medical Genetics Program at Mount Sinai Hospital. His career is marked by significant contributions to the field of Medical Genetics, receiving the Founders Award of Excellence from the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists in 2010. David's research focuses on prenatal diagnosis, genetic counseling, and the identification of genetic mutations responsible for various conditions. He has published over 15 book chapters and authored around 400 peer-reviewed papers on diverse topics such as Cardiac Genetics, Neurogenetics, and Urogenital abnormalities. His innovative work often intersects with clinical practice, where he applies findings to enhance the detection of fetal abnormalities through advanced genetic testing methodologies. David continues to be at the forefront of medical genetics research, employing whole exome sequencing to explore genetic disorders associated with fetal abnormalities.
