Biography

David is a Lecturer in Rural Regeneration at the School of Social and Environmental Sustainability in Dumfries. His research focuses on local and regional development, particularly in rural and peripheral places. He is currently involved in the RRR-Coast project, an international initiative examining post-Covid responses and resilience within the blue economy of coastal regions. This project collaborates with notable institutions such as the United Nations University in Bonn, the University of Costa Rica, and the University of Massachusetts. His work emphasizes the role of universities in supporting peripheral and disadvantaged communities through their civic missions. David's research has addressed the local impacts and responses to Covid-19, particularly regarding border closures in northern Vietnam. He also contributes to the development of regional economic strategies, as well as anti-poverty initiatives in Dumfries and Galloway. Through his previous work with the Glasgow End of Life Studies Group, he has participated in significant publications, such as the World Map of Palliative Care Development. David is available for supervising doctoral research projects that relate to aspects of local and regional development.
