Biography

David B. Collinge is a Professor in Plant Pathology at the University of Copenhagen. Born in Liverpool, he has a distinguished academic background in genetics, having earned his BSc (Hons) from the University of Liverpool in 1979 and his PhD from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1982. His doctoral dissertation focused on the genetic control of cyanogenic glucoside biosynthesis in Trifolium repens. Since joining the University of Copenhagen in 1983, David has concentrated on the molecular biology of plant defense mechanisms against various pathogens, particularly fungi. Over the years, he has led numerous research projects, including the coordination of several Marie S. Curie and Danida funded programs. Notably, he has published over 100 refereed articles, contributing significantly to our understanding of plant-pathogen interactions. David has also taken on leadership roles, including heading the Microbial Ecology Biotechnology section and serving on various editorial and national examination boards. As an active participant in both academic and public discussions regarding plant diseases and biotechnology, he emphasizes sustainable food security and the roles of endophytic fungi in crop protection.
