Biography

David Conroy is a Professor and Bickner Chair in Applied Exercise Science at the University of Michigan, where he also directs the Motivation Laboratory and the Roybal Center Promoting Adherence Behavior Change & Enhancing Cognitive Function. His research primarily focuses on developing behavioral interventions that target motivational processes to promote health behaviors, enabling individuals to live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. His goal is to make healthy lifestyles enjoyable and less effortful. Conroy has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has been a member of several journal editorial boards. He served as the President of the Science Board for the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, & Nutrition and was a consultant for the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Lifestyle Change Behavioral Health study section at the NIH Center for Scientific Review. His ongoing research includes just-in-time behavioral intervention trials and projects focusing on physical activity tracking among older adults, funded by various national health organizations.
