Biography

David’s research broadly focuses on understanding how people can be resilient to stress. He conducts community intervention studies, laboratory studies on stress coping, and neuroimaging studies to understand how stress management strategies can alter coping and enhance resilience. His current work includes investigating the impacts of mindfulness meditation training on brain and physiological responses to stress and related disease outcomes in at-risk community samples. Additionally, David explores simple strategies such as self-affirmation and cognitive reappraisal to help buffer stress and improve problem-solving under pressure. He has also made research contributions exploring the roles of unconscious processes in learning and decision making, and is developing new theoretical frameworks for understanding behavioral priming and health neuroscience.
