Biography

David Nikki Crouse is a transgender/genderqueer writer whose work often explores themes of identity and the relationship with the natural world. They are the author of four collections of short fiction, including 'Copy Cats,' which won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction, and 'Man Back,' awarded the Mary McCarthy Prize. Their recent collection features Alaska-based short stories titled 'I'm Alaska Stories,' as well as a novella collection called 'Trouble Save,' which dramatizes the lives of women living in interior Alaska through extended narratives. Crouse's short stories have been published in several prestigious literary magazines, including the Kenyon Review and the Greensboro Review, and have received numerous nominations and awards, including the Pen-Faulkner Award. Currently, they serve as the S. Wilson Grace M. Pollock Endowed Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Washington. Additionally, Crouse is engaged in several book-length projects, including a novel about academia and social justice titled 'Bloodless' and a short story collection called 'Stranger.' Aside from writing, they enjoy reading comic books and creating low-fi electronic music.
