Biography

David Z. D'Argenio is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California and the inaugural holder of the Chonette Chair of Biomedical Technology. He has been a faculty member in the Biomedical Engineering department at USC since 1979 and has held various key positions, including Chairman of the Department and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. D'Argenio is recognized as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. His research focuses on quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP), developing methods to enhance model-based discovery and optimize the use of medicines for effective treatments of life-threatening diseases. He has extensively contributed to the field through his work on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, which aim to quantify the genetic and epigenetic factors that influence therapeutic responses. His efforts also extend to oncology, infectious diseases, and metabolic disorders. He is a consultant to various pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms and actively engages in advancing pharmacometrics through software systems such as ADAPT.
