Dr. David Day

Biography

David Day, C.Psych., is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). He obtained his PhD from the University of Windsor, where he began his research journey focusing on community mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. His doctoral research explored psycho-epistemology and predictors of attitude change. In 1989, he took on the role of Director of Research Evaluation at the Earlscourt Child and Family Centre, which is now known as the Child Development Institute in Toronto. Day's research at Earlscourt predominantly looked at factors contributing to early onset antisocial behavior among children aged 6 to 11 years. He has a keen interest in developmental criminology, informed by his experience working as a staff psychologist in a medium-security prison for adult male offenders. Since joining TMU in 1998, Day has seamlessly blended his research interests in developmental criminology and children's mental health, directing the Psychology Criminalized Risky Behaviours Lab (PoCRB Lab). His major research programs focus on longitudinally investigating developmental risk factors for criminal trajectories, with a notable project involving a sample of 764 male offenders. In addition to his research contributions, which include the publication of the book 'Criminal Trajectories: A Developmental Perspective' (2019), Day's teaching also aligns with his research areas, offering courses such as Special Topics in Social Psychology, Advanced Social Psychology Seminar, and Developmental Psychopathology.
