David de Boer is an Assistant Professor of Political History at Radboud University. His research interests include the moral obligations created by transnational solidarity networks and the management of migration in a globalizing world. His recent book, "Early Modern Dutch Press: The Age of Religious Persecution," published by Oxford University Press in 2023, examines how the rise of the printing press was weaponized by states for persecution in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He is currently developing a new research project that explores migration debates on the governance of human mobility from approximately 1650 to 1900, comparing the migration narratives of London, Amsterdam, and Berlin. This research seeks to deepen the understanding of how stories surrounding migration have been universalized and transferred locally, particularly in the context of human mobility. David studied history at Utrecht University and received a PhD from the University of Konstanz and Leiden University through a joint doctoral program. He has held visiting fellowships at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and the Leibniz Institute of European History. Before joining Radboud University, he was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Amsterdam.
