Biography

David L. Des Marais is an Amgen Career Development Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing his research on the mechanisms of plant-environment interactions. His lab employs molecular tools, quantitative methods, and population genetics to uncover the physiological basis of plant responses to environmental cues. Additionally, he investigates the mechanisms that constrain and facilitate plant breeding and evolutionary change. He has made significant contributions to the field through various publications, covering topics such as gene co-expression and ecological interactions that influence plant fitness under varying environmental conditions. Des Marais completed his Bachelor's degree in Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley in 2000, and later earned his PhD in Biology from Duke University in 2008. With a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, he has received several prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER Award.
