David DiCarlo is an Associate Professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a B.S. in Physics with high honors from Case Western Reserve University (1987), an M.S. in Physics from Cornell University (1990), and a Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University (1994). His research focuses on applying advanced experimental techniques to understand fluid flow in hydrocarbon reservoirs. This includes the innovative use of Computed Tomography (CT) scanning to provide in-situ phase saturations converted to permeabilities and relative permeabilities, achieved over shorter time scales and a wider range of saturations compared to traditional steady-state methods. DiCarlo's research topics include enhanced oil recovery, three-phase flow (water, oil, gas), surfactant imbibition, compositional displacements, flow stability, and the effect of nanoparticles in porous media.
General requirements for the Graduate School at UT Austin apply to all programs unless otherwise specified.
