David Douches leads the potato breeding genetics project at Michigan State University (MSU), releasing 30 varieties since 1988. He currently serves as Project Director for the USAID-funded Feed Future Global Biotech Potato Partnership in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Kenya. Douches is a professor in the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences and serves as lead principal investigator on the USDA/NIFA-funded North Central Regional Potato Breeding Genetics project, as well as co-principal investigator on a USDA/BRAG-funded potato gene editing project assessing off-target effects. He previously directed the Solanaceae Coordinated Agricultural Project (SolCAP), developing four potato SNP arrays used by the potato breeding genetics community. In 2010, he was appointed director of the Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology Interdepartmental Graduate Program at MSU and taught courses on lab-based plant biotechnology techniques and principles. Douches has extensive international experience in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa, China, Peru, and Guatemala.
