Dr. David Eisner

Biography

David Eisner is the British Heart Foundation Professor of Cardiac Physiology at the University of Manchester. He received his B.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge in 1976 and his D.Phil. in Physiology from Oxford in 1979. His early career included roles at University College London and the University of Liverpool. His research primarily focuses on the mechanisms that regulate heart contraction, particularly in the context of cardiovascular disease, a major cause of death in the developed world. His group investigates the role of calcium in cardiac muscle contraction and how its dysregulation can lead to arrhythmias. He has served as Editor-in-Chief for leading journals and has been active in various professional societies, holding significant leadership positions and contributing to research assessment panels. His work has influenced the understanding of calcium dynamics in heart cells, and he has received numerous awards and honors, including fellowships and honorary doctorates.
