Biography

David graduated from the University of Sydney Veterinary School in 1973, and spent 18 months in mixed practice. He completed his PhD in transplantation immunology focusing on bull-heifer twins at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. Following this, David undertook postdoctoral research at the International Livestock Research Institute in Kenya, where he worked on East Coast fever (Theileriosis) and Trypanosomiasis in cattle and goats from 1978 to 1981, confirming the role of cytotoxic T-cells in Theilerial immunity. He returned to CSIRO Animal Health for 19 years, where he focused on immunity and vaccination against footrot and nematode parasites in livestock. After spending two years in Animal Biosecurity with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in Canberra, David joined the University of Sydney in 2001 in the field of Parasitology. His current research interests include livestock parasites, particularly intestinal nematodes, ticks, Theileria, immunoparasitology (ecto and endo-parasites), and vaccines.
