Dr. David Eng

Biography

David L. Eng is the Richard L. Fisher Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania. His research areas include American studies, Asian American studies, critical race theory, psychoanalysis, queer studies, and gender studies. Eng has contributed significantly to the fields of literary theory and cultural studies, and has been recognized with several fellowships and awards, including the Kessler Prize from the Center for LGBTQ Studies. He is the author of several influential texts, such as 'Racial Melancholia, Racial Dissociation' and 'Racial Castration: Managing Masculinity in Asian America.' Additionally, Eng has edited multiple works focusing on queer theory and cultural memory. He plays an active role in educational and scholarly communities, serving as a member of various editorial boards and as a founding convenor of the Faculty Working Group on Race and Empire Studies. Eng has also held visiting positions at prestigious institutions, including Harvard University and King's College London, further expanding his academic influence.
