Dr. David Fearn

Biography

David Fearn is a Professor at the University of Warwick, specializing in Greek literature and poetics. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he focused on literature and philosophy, ultimately completing his DPhil in Greek Literature in 2003. Fearn has held various prestigious fellowships, including the Junior Research Fellowship at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and the Mellon Career Development Fellowship at Jesus College, Oxford. As a member of the Faculty of Arts, he has been a significant presence in the study of Greek literary texts, examining their socio-political and cultural contexts. His research interests specifically lie in the poetics and aesthetics of archaic and classical Greek lyric poetry. Fearn aims to shed light on the historical contexts of works by poets such as Bacchylides and Pindar, striving to connect ancient texts to contemporary critical theories. He has published multiple monographs, contributions to academic journals, and edited collections, which explore the intricacies of Greek poetry and its reception through time.
