Dr. David Field

Biography

David Field is an Associate Professor in Applied Biosciences at Macquarie University. His research focuses on Wild Plant Genomics, exploring the genetic basis of traits that affect fitness in ecological scenarios. He aims to understand the processes underlying adaptation and speciation, addressing practical challenges in the restoration of threatened plants and improving the productivity and resilience of commercially important native plants. His ongoing projects include studies on flower colour evolution, genetic rescue of threatened plant populations, and the adaptive potential of plants in changing climates. He utilizes a range of methodologies, including whole genomic sequencing and large-scale ecological experiments, and often collaborates with industry and government on topics like plant mating systems and pollinator behaviour. David holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Wollongong and has previously held positions at institutions such as Edith Cowan University and the University of Toronto.
