Dr. David Fischer

Biography

David Fischer, MD, is the Founding Director of the Recovery Consciousness Evidence-Based Medicine Research (RECOVER) Program at the Penn Neuroscience Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specializes in Psychiatry & Neurology and Neurocritical Care. Dr. Fischer completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School, followed by a residency at Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center and Massachusetts General Hospital, and a fellowship also at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has extensive experience in treating patients with disorders of consciousness and has contributed to various research initiatives focusing on neuroprognostication and recovery outcomes for patients suffering from acute disorders of consciousness. His research interests include the implementation of specialized neuroprognostication consultations, ethical considerations in assessing covert consciousness, and various conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Fischer has published numerous articles in well-regarded journals and presented at prestigious conferences, establishing him as a key figure in neurology and critical care medicine.
