Dr. David Fox

Biography

David Fox holds the Chair in Common Law at the University of Edinburgh. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Otago in New Zealand and received his PhD degree from the University of Cambridge. He has served as a Fellow at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, and has extensive teaching experience focused on various aspects of private law, particularly property, trusts, Roman law, and monetary law. In addition, Professor Fox has held visiting posts at the National University of Singapore and has practiced as a barrister in England and Wales, specifically with door tenancy at Maitland Chambers, Lincoln’s Inn. His research interests reflect a strong historical and comparative focus, primarily concentrated on the formation of modern trust property doctrine within common law systems and the implications of private law in relation to money. His recent work has utilized doctrinal numismatic sources to develop a legal historical view of money law. Currently, he is involved in projects that relate to the extension of general private law doctrine to emerging cryptocurrency technology.
