Biography

David Frye is a Lecturer IV in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. He earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1989 and has a focus on ethnography, particularly within the context of Mexico's colonial history and the construction of Indianness. His research interests encompass a range of topics within Latin American societies and cultures, and he has published on religious movements and colonial history in this region. He is also affiliated with the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Throughout his career, Frye has received several prestigious awards including the ACLS Award in 1990, a Fulbright Award during the 1983-1984 academic year, and a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship for a Translation Project on prose.
