Biography

David Gerber holds a joint appointment at USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC School of Architecture as a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Practice as well as Architecture. He serves as the program director for the Civil Engineering Building Science undergraduate program and the Master's in Emerging Technologies and Construction Program. In addition, he is the associate director of the Office of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (the TIE HUB). He teaches at both the Viterbi School of Engineering and at the Viterbi Startup Garage. Gerber has professional experience in architectural and engineering technology practices across the United States, Europe, and Asia, having worked with prominent firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Gehry Technologies, and Moshe Safdie Architects. His research is focused on the development of innovative systems and methods for the built environment, with an emphasis on digital twin technologies and their integration into architecture and engineering. Gerber has a strong academic background, having completed his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of California Berkeley, followed by master's degrees from the Architectural Association and Harvard University. He also holds a Doctorate in Design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design and has received various fellowships, including the Frederick Sheldon Fellowship.
