Biography

David Eric Golan is a Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard University. His research focuses on understanding the molecular interactions that govern protein and lipid mobility and distribution within cell membranes, as well as the mechanisms that affect these interactions and their role in the pathophysiology of diseases. His laboratory employs advanced imaging techniques, including time-resolved scanning laser microscopes, to investigate single-cell and single-molecule dynamics in biological systems. Notable research interests include the analysis of erythroid cell membranes to define motion modes and the investigation of sickle cell erythrocyte adhesion mechanisms. Professor Golan is also involved in studying immune synapse formation and the quantitative interactions between lipopolysaccharide and cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein. His work aims to elucidate the physical properties of these interactions to further understand disease mechanisms. Graduate student rotation projects in his lab are available for students interested in these research areas.
