Biography

David Goldberg joined Cornell University as an Associate Professor in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) in August 2017. He previously served as an Associate Professor at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Research from MIT in 2011 and his B.S. in Computer Science with minors in Operations Research and Applied Math from Columbia University in 2006. His research focuses on applied probability and stochastic processes, addressing topics such as optimal stopping and inventory queueing models, as well as combinatorial and robust optimization. He is known for developing novel algorithms and insights into fundamental models that were previously considered intractable. Professor Goldberg has led large-scale undergraduate research programs at Cornell, offering students real-world applications in data science and training in leadership and teamwork. He has taught various undergraduate and Ph.D. courses in probability modeling, statistics, supply chain modeling, and more. Additionally, he has chaired several committees and initiatives at Cornell and Georgia Tech and has received multiple awards for his teaching and research contributions.
