David Gonsalvez is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University, leading the Neuroglia Development and Disease Laboratory at the Biomedicine Discovery Institute. His research is centered on fundamental neuroscience, focusing on understanding the mechanisms that regulate cell production dynamics in neuroglia, their development, and aging responses to central nervous system injury. He is also exploring new therapeutic targets to enhance CNS repair responses relevant to Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neuron Disease through the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells to engineer complex 3D CNS tissue. He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2013 and subsequently took a role as a Senior Tutor in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. In 2014, he joined the Neurotrophin Myelin Lab at the Melbourne Brain Centre and was awarded the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Early Career Fellowship in 2016. At Monash in 2020, he established his independent laboratory and commenced the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Fellowship Award (DECRA). He is also passionate about anatomy education for medical students, serving as the Deputy Director of the Centre for Human Anatomy Education and the Director of the Glasgow Scholarship program.
