Biography

David Charles Gordon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and serves as the Associate Program Director and Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Duke University School of Medicine. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Gordon joined the Emergency Medicine faculty at Duke University in 2005 and is devoted to the education and training of medical students and residents. His main academic interests include teaching clinical reasoning, understanding and reducing cognitive errors, and remediating struggling learners. As the Undergraduate Education Director for Emergency Medicine, he has played a pivotal role in producing nationwide educational training videos aimed at improving patient presentations, facilitating safer sign-outs, and enhancing effective consultations. Dr. Gordon has received several accolades for his educational contributions, including the Duke Emergency Medicine Faculty Teacher of the Year Award, the Duke Emergency Medicine Distinguished Faculty Award, the American College of Emergency Physicians National Faculty Teaching Award, and the Duke University School of Medicine Master Clinician/Teacher Award.
