Biography

David Grazian is a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication and the School of Arts and Sciences, where he teaches courses on popular culture, mass media, arts, urban sociology, social interaction, and public behavior. With a focus on ethnographic qualitative methods, his research examines the production and consumption of commercial entertainment within urban environments. Grazian has authored four significant books: 'Blue Chicago: Authenticity in Urban Blues Clubs' (University of Chicago Press, 2003), 'Make: Hustle and Urban Nightlife' (University of Chicago Press, 2008), 'Mix: Popular Culture, Mass Media, Society' (W.W. Norton, 2010), and 'American Zoo: A Sociological Safari' (Princeton University Press, 2015). He received his B.A. from Rutgers University in 1994 and later earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2000. In addition to his main appointment, he holds a secondary position at the Annenberg School for Communication.
