Biography

David Grazian is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. from Rutgers University in 1994, followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago in 1996 and 2000, respectively. His teaching and research focus on popular culture, mass media, urban sociology, classical sociological theory, and ethnographic methods. Grazian utilizes a variety of ethnographic qualitative methods to study the production and consumption of commercial entertainment within urban environments. He is the author of four notable books including 'Blue Chicago: Search for Authenticity in Urban Blues Clubs' (University of Chicago Press, 2003), 'Make: Hustle Urban Nightlife' (University of Chicago Press, 2008), 'Mix: Popular Culture, Mass Media, Society' (W.W. Norton, 2010; 2017), and 'American Zoo: Sociological Safari' (Princeton University Press, 2015).
