Dr. David Halen

Biography

David Halen is the concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony and a Professor of Violin at the Department of Strings at the University of Michigan. He earned his Bachelor of Music from Central Missouri State University and a Master of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Halen has performed with notable orchestras such as the Houston and San Francisco Symphonies and has held the position of assistant concertmaster with the Houston Symphony Orchestra before joining the St. Louis Symphony in 1991. He has had the privilege of working under prominent music directors including Leonard Slatkin and David Robertson. Halen has a rich teaching background, having taught and served as concertmaster in prestigious institutions like the Manhattan School of Music and Indiana University. He has also been recognized as a Distinguished Visiting Artist at Yale University and has co-founded the Innsbrook Institute. Halen's contributions to music education and performance have garnered him numerous awards, including the St. Louis Arts and Entertainment Award for Excellence.
