Biography

David G. Hendry is an associate professor at the Information School of the University of Washington, where he teaches courses in human-computer interaction, information system design, and foundations of information science. His research focuses on the creation of tools and practices that promote sustainable and inclusive participation in the design of information systems. Dr. Hendry employs the theory and method of Value Sensitive Design, conducting studies particularly aimed at the use of information systems for homeless young people in drop-in centers supporting their welfare. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Human-Centered Design & Engineering. His published work encompasses various topics including information management, design education, and end-user programming. Hendry has been affiliated with the iSchool since 2002, and prior to this, he founded the User Experience Group at Lycos, where he carried out user research on various internet search and communication products. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Robert Gordon University in 1996 and holds an MSc and BA from the University of Guelph.
