Dr. David Hummels

Biography

David Hummels is a Distinguished Professor of Economics at Purdue University's Krannert School of Management. He holds a PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Michigan and a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of Colorado. He teaches courses in International Economics and has received multiple awards for his teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Hummels' research interests span a broad range of issues in international trade, including the impact of offshoring on labor markets, product differentiation, barriers to trade, and the broader effects of trade on economic development. He has published four books and over 40 research articles in leading economic journals such as the American Economic Review and the Journal of Political Economy. In addition to his academic roles, he served as the Dean of the Krannert School from 2014 to 2023 and is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Throughout his career, Hummels has worked as a consultant and visiting scholar for various central banks and development policy institutes globally, analyzing the economic implications of trade and economic policies.
