David Jackson, professor of trombone at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, enjoys an active career as a performer and teacher. He is recognized as an ardent supporter of new music, having commissioned and premiered numerous compositions for trombone, including 'Angel Dreamers' by Eric Ewazen for trombone, baritone voice, and strings, and 'John Henry’s Big Adolphus' by Hailstork for trombone and piano. Jackson has been a guest performer with numerous orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, New World Symphony, and Michigan Opera Theatre, as well as the Cabrillo Music Festival. He is a member of the Detroit Chamber Winds and is in demand as a guest clinician and performer. Jackson has presented numerous guest recitals and master classes at notable institutions such as the Juilliard School, Yale University, UCLA, University of Minnesota, and Cincinnati College-Conservatory, along with conservatories in Shanghai and Beijing. His students occupy significant performing and teaching positions around the world. Previously, Jackson has held faculty positions at Baylor University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Toledo, Interlochen Arts Camp, and Idyllwild ChamberFest. He spends his summers teaching and performing at the Brevard Music Center and is a S. E. Shires artist clinician.
