Biography

David Burkhart Janssen is a scholar in the field of Church History with a focus on Classical Studies and Theology. He completed his Education in Protestant Theology and History at the University of Tübingen and Durham, UK, where he received his Bachelor's degree in 2015 and a Master's degree in Classics in 2017, graduated with distinction for his thesis on the 'Mystery-cults in the Tetrarchic Roman Empire (284-324 AD)'. Since 2019, he has been working as a Research Assistant at the Department of Church History II, under Professor Drecoll. His doctoral dissertation titled 'Inimici gratiae Dei: Augustine's Construction of Pelagianism and the Development of His Doctrine of Grace after 418 AD' is currently under evaluation, having been submitted in November 2022. He has held various positions including chairing the Interests Representation of the Academic Middle Class of Protestant Theology faculties and institutes and serving as a speaker for the Protestant Theological Mid-level staff in Tübingen. His research interests include Pelagianism, Augustine's theology, and the historical development of doctrinal issues in early Christianity, as reflected in his numerous publications in esteemed journals and volumes. He continues to teach various courses related to Christian history and theology at the university.
