Biography

David Johnson is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on the development and application of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) flows and various measurement techniques for internal flows, turbulent recirculation flows, and jet nozzle flows. Additionally, he has expertise in wind energy, specifically regarding wind turbines and large-scale PIV measurement techniques. Professor Johnson founded the Wind Energy Research Group (WEG) at the university, which specializes in wind turbine aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. His work includes the publication of studies on incompressible flow in turbomachinery, pump internal velocity measurements, and fan design performance measurement. David has also lectured extensively on measurement techniques in wind turbine aerodynamics and has developed innovative aeroacoustic measurement techniques for wind turbines. His career includes a long-standing involvement in renewable energy research in Canada and Denmark, dating back to his early days with Ontario Hydro Research Division in the late 1980s.
