Dr. David Kauvar

Biography

David Kauvar, MD, MPH is an academic vascular surgeon who received his undergraduate medical education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, while serving in the active duty Army. He completed his general surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and a surgical research fellowship at the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research, followed by a clinical fellowship at the University of Utah. With a 24-year career as a wartime vascular surgeon, he culminated his military tenure with retirement in 2022. Kauvar is known as a respected surgical educator and has become an academic leader in the fields of military vascular trauma. He earned his Master of Public Health degree from the University of North Texas and is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. His role at Stanford University School of Medicine as Clinical Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery includes primary clinical responsibilities at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California. Throughout his career, he has authored eighty peer-reviewed publications, contributed to numerous textbook chapters, and presented his research at national and international surgical meetings, establishing himself as an acknowledged expert in vascular trauma.
