Biography

David Kemmerer is a professor in the Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. His empirical theoretical work primarily focuses on understanding people's knowledge of word meanings as implemented in the brain. He has a keen interest in the relationships among semantics, grammar, perception, action, and cross-linguistic similarities and differences in conceptual representation. Kemmerer has published over 60 articles and chapters, in addition to textbooks such as 'Cognitive Neuroscience of Language' (1st edition 2015, 2nd edition 2022) and the monograph 'Concepts in the Brain: A View of Cross-Linguistic Diversity' (2019). He is currently working on a forthcoming book titled 'The Neuroscience of Word Meaning' as part of the Cambridge Fundamentals of Neuroscience in Psychology series.
