Biography

David Kempe received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 2003 and joined the faculty of the computer science department at the University of Southern California (USC) in Fall 2004. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science. His primary research interests encompass computer science theory, design, and analysis of algorithms with a particular emphasis on social networks and the intersection of economics and computing. He has also focused on algorithmic learning questions. Throughout his career, Kempe has received several prestigious awards including the NSF CAREER Award, the VSoE Junior Research Award, the ONR Young Investigator Award, a Sloan Fellowship, and an Okawa Fellowship, along with various USC mentoring awards. His accolades include the 2014 ACM Conference on Economics and Computation Paper Award, the 2014 ACM SIGKDD Test of Time Award, the 2012 Okawa Foundation Research Grant, and the 2011 ICML Conference Distinguished Paper Award. Moreover, he has earned recognition for his excellent teaching and mentoring at USC.
