Biography

David Kleinfeld received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in mid 1984 and has spent a decade on the research staff at Bell Laboratories before joining the faculty at UCSD in late 1995. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Interdisciplinary Science Award, the NIH Director's Pioneer Award, and the NINDS Research Program Award. Currently, Kleinfeld holds the Dr. George Feher Endowed Chair in Experimental Biophysics, primarily funded by the NIH BRAIN initiative, and leads the 'Low&High' Team in the BRAIN Circuits Program. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. At UCSD, he leads the specialization in Computational Neuroscience within the Neurosciences Graduate Program.
