Dr. David Knight

Biography

David Knight is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington's College of Education, specializing in Educational Finance and Policy. His research interests encompass Educational Policy, Equity Studies, and Policy & Educational Reform. He holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy and has a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Southern California, along with Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Anthropology from the University of Kansas. Dr. Knight's work investigates the economic foundations of educational systems and addresses issues of distributive justice, equity, and funding disparities. His impactful research has revealed significant findings regarding the disproportionate effects of state funding cuts on low-income and racially diverse districts, as well as the inequitable distribution of resources among schools. A member of the National Education Policy Center, Dr. Knight has provided expert testimony on issues of school finance at state legislative hearings and engaged with various educational committees. His publications span multiple journals and reveal a commitment to fostering equitable educational opportunities for all students. David's previous roles include serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he also directed the Center for Education Research and Policy Studies.
