Dr. David Knowles

Biography

David Knowles is a leading researcher in the field of machine learning and genomics, with a particular focus on understanding genetic variation and its impact on human disease. He is currently the Principal Investigator at the Knowles Lab, affiliated with the New York Genome Center and Columbia University. His research interests encompass machine learning, statistical genetics, and functional genomics, especially in relation to RNA splicing and its role as a molecular mediator of genetic risk for complex diseases. David's notable work includes developing tools to analyze alternative splicing in RNA sequencing data, as well as employing deep learning models for causal inference in gene regulatory networks. He has collaborated with various research groups to collect and analyze large-scale genomic datasets in the context of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. David has a rich academic background, having completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge under the guidance of Zoubin Ghahramani and has since published extensively in his field.
