Biography

David W. Koch is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Law School, where he specializes in International Transactions through the Law International Transactions Clinic. With over 23 years of franchising experience, Koch has worked with clients across various industries, including foodservice, hotels, educational services, staffing, and insurance. Before entering private law practice, he served as an attorney-advisor to Hon. Daniel Oliver, chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, and began his career as a staff attorney in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. He has also been counsel for the minority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives. Koch has been an active member of the American Bar Association's Forum on Franchising, serving as both an associate editor and editor-in-chief of the Franchise Lawyer. He is a member of the ABA’s Section of Antitrust Law and has been part of the International Bar Association’s International Franchising Committee. He has spoken at numerous legal and business conferences in countries including India, Poland, Romania, England, and Canada and has authored or co-authored over 30 published articles and conference papers. Koch is admitted to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia.
