David Lemm is a visual artist based in Edinburgh, appointed as a Lecturer in Graphic Design at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2023. He studied Animation at Duncan Jordanstone, Dundee, and his approach evolved into an interdisciplinary ethos that includes a wealth of design industry experience. David’s practice-based research considers the relationships between image, meaning, and material process, with a particular focus on representations of landscape and situational visual narrative. He works across printmaking, drawing, collage, and sculptural assemblage. David has undertaken numerous residencies, commissions, and research projects, including the Jon Schueler Scholarship at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Skye in 2017 and participating in the LOCUS Public Art Trail in Lerwick from 2020 to 2021. Additionally, he was an Artist in Residence at the Royal Brompton Hospital from 2020 to 2022. David has presented solo exhibitions in Edinburgh, London, and at Moray Art Centre in Findhorn (Fastenings, 2023). He regularly participates in group exhibitions such as Reduct: Abstraction and Geometry in Scottish Art at RSA, Edinburgh in 2020 and the Scottish Landscape Awards at Kirkcudbright Galleries in 2025. His work, the Mapping Eigg series from 2014, is currently included in V&A Dundee’s Scottish Design Galleries.
