Biography

David Lipps is an Associate Professor in the Department of Movement Science at the University of Michigan's School of Kinesiology. He is the Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics & Imaging Laboratory (MBIL) and is part of the Graduate Faculty in Movement Science. Lipps received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan and previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University's Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. His research focuses on understanding mechanisms of musculoskeletal injuries through diagnostic imaging and biomechanical measures, particularly related to upper extremity function in breast cancer patients post-surgery and radiotherapy. He has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Biomechanics. Lipps is an ad hoc reviewer for several academic journals including the Journal of Applied Biomechanics and the Journal of Orthopedic Research and teaches undergraduate biomechanics courses. He is also affiliated with the American Society of Biomechanics and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
