David Litchfield is a Professor and the Director of Research Infrastructure in the Department of Biochemistry at Western University. He obtained his B.Sc. from McMaster University and his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. He has conducted postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of Washington. His research focuses on signal transduction events that govern cell proliferation and survival, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms that control growth and survival in mammalian cells. He investigates the signal transduction pathways involving protein kinase CK2 and its interaction with partners such as CKIP-1 and Pin1, particularly in the context of cancer, atherosclerosis, neurological disorders, and immune dysfunction. Litchfield's work aims to improve the understanding of tumorigenesis and to explore the potential of protein kinases CK2 as targets for molecular targeted therapies. He has established numerous collaborations locally and internationally and has contributed to the establishment of a Functional Proteomics Facility that fosters research in conjunction with the London Regional Proteomics Centre.
