David W.L. Ma is a Professor in the Department of Human Health Sciences at the University of Guelph. His research focuses on dietary fats, particularly the role of omega-3 fatty acids in breast cancer prevention, and biomarkers associated with fat intake. He obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2001, studying the anticancer properties of conjugated linoleic acids in breast cancer. After further postdoctoral research at Texas A&M University on omega-3 fatty acids, he joined the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor before moving to Guelph in 2007. Here, as the founding Director of the Guelph Family Health Study, he leads multidisciplinary projects aimed at understanding health determinants in families and childhood obesity prevention. His research also encompasses studying bioactive fatty acids' effects on chronic diseases and exploring implementation science. He holds significant positions in various national committees and is currently a Fellow of the Canadian Nutrition Society.
