Biography

David Manolopoulos obtained a BA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge in 1984 and completed his PhD under the supervision of David Clary in 1988. After completing postdoctoral work at the University of Texas at Austin, he was appointed to a lectureship in Physical Chemistry at the University of Nottingham in 1990, and later moved to the University of Oxford in 1995 as a lecturer in Physical Theoretical Chemistry. In 2005, he became Professor of Theoretical Chemistry. His research focuses on understanding quantum mechanical effects in chemical dynamics, having developed several new methods widely used in the field. This research has included gas phase dynamics, where he investigated quantum mechanical descriptions of elementary chemical reactions, and condensed phase dynamics, which explores behaviors of quantum systems and the importance of nuclear quantum effects. He has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to chemical dynamics and has served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Chemical Physics.
