David E McClelland received his PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1987. He was appointed as a Lecturer at the Australian National University (ANU) in 1988 and currently serves as a Distinguished Professor and Director of the ANU Centre for Gravitational Astrophysics. McClelland is also a Chief Investigator in Australia's Partnership with Advanced LIGO and the Deputy Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery (OzGrav). He has received several prestigious awards, including being a joint recipient of the Australian Prime Minister's Prize for Science in 2020. His research interests include the development of optical techniques for laser-interferometer-based gravitational wave detectors, and the generation and application of squeezed states of light, as well as quantum-optomechanics applications in high precision sensing.
