Biography

David L. McDowell is a Regents' Professor Emeritus at the Georgia Institute of Technology's George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering. He joined Georgia Tech in 1983 and served as the Director of the Mechanical Properties Research Laboratory from 1992 to 2012. In August 2012, he was named the Founding Director of the Institute of Materials (IMat), an interdisciplinary research institute at Georgia Tech focused on promoting collaborations in materials research and education. His research interests encompass Mechanics and Materials, particularly the development of physically-based constitutive models for materials behavior, finite strain inelasticity, and multi-scale modeling methods. He has published extensively and continues to contribute to advancements in materials science and engineering.
