Biography

David Mendeloff is an Associate Professor of International Affairs at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) and serves as the Associate Dean (Faculty Affairs) in the Faculty of Public and Global Affairs (FPGA). He is currently the Interim Director of the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs. Over his career, Mendeloff has been involved in various roles, including serving as Director of NPSIA’s Centre for Security and Defence Studies from 2006 to 2015. His research focuses on the theory and practice of international transitional justice, emphasizing the impact of accountability mechanisms, including international and domestic prosecutions and truth commissions, on wartime civilian violence, war termination, peace processes, and post-war statebuilding. His current research examines the International Criminal Court's ability to act coercively to limit and prevent war crimes and atrocities in ongoing civil wars. At NPSIA, he teaches courses related to international conflict analysis, post-conflict peacebuilding, statebuilding, and transitional justice. Mendeloff holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in international relations from the Claremont Colleges (Pitzer College).
